How We Help

The DFC awards four $500 scholarships to cadets, twice a year, for a total of $4,000 yearly to help  cadets offset cost of  approximately $2,800 for tuition and  supplies  to attend the FCC Fire Academy. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to their education.

Award Recipient

I was honored to meet you and receive this award in front of my family, friends, and brothers and sisters of the fire family I hope to be a part of. I identify with Jim's love for his job, family, and his community. This is a gift, and a gift is never to be taken for granted. I plan on taking classes at this year's Nor/So Cal Symposium to further my knowledge in the career I have chosen. I am forever grateful for this. Thank you for trusting me in honoring Jim's legacy of service."                            Tanner Munro

"I am so thankful for being chosen to receive this award. With this scholarship money I was able to enroll into FCC Fire technology classes that start in the spring. This scholarship gave me the opportunity to remain debt free with my education. Receiving this award is an honor and humbling experience. Jim Deaver was an extraordinary man! It is an honor to received this award! "                               Cody King

"I am sincerely honored and most thankful to have been selected as a recipient of the Jim Deaver Fire Academy Scholarship. Your generosity has allowed me to be a better firefighter by being able to take on the EMT program at Fresno City. As I continue on with my education, I will always remember the experience I was fortunate enough to have gone throughout the Fire Academy and all the hard work I put in to receive this scholarship. With that said, I promise to give back to the community any chance I get. I can only hope to be half the firefighter Captain Deaver was..thank you again so much!"              Janice Damo

"It is with honor, respect and love that I thank you for believing in my future and the future of young men and women dedicated to making this world better. I thank you from my heart."                                                                     Dominic Smith

"Dear Socorro and the Deaver Fund Committee,

Thank you so much for selecting me as a recipient of the Jim Deaver Fire Academy Scholarship! In helping out with the Sanger Toyland Parade, I met some of you and learned how hard you work to help young cadets pursue their careers of service. I promise to carry on Jim's legacy of selflessly helping those he didn't know and serving his community. Again, thank you for this honorable gift."

"Dear Mrs. Deaver,

I just wanted to thank you and the committee for offering a scholarship to me. I greatly appreciate it and it definitely helps! I am going to continue to get my associates degree in Fire Tech, and continue to follow in what my teacher, Jim Deaver, would want for me....hopefully one day following in his footsteps.                                    Anthony Holguin
